Officer Timothy Sommer has served with the Rochester Police Department since October of 2008. After graduating from Sacred Heart Griffin High School in 2004, he attended Western Illinois University graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Law Enforcement and Justice Administration in May of 2008. While at Western he was in the Army Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) program and upon Graduation was commissioned as an Officer in the Illinois Army National Guard.

He is a Certified Juvenile Officer, a Certified Breath Alcohol Test Operator, an AR-15/ M-16 Armorer, a Distraction Device (Flashbang) Instructor, and a Taser ECD Instructor. Additionally, He is certified in SWAT/CQB operations, basic and advanced rapid deployment, rapid deployment-live fire, and has been through the REID method of criminal interviews and interrogations.
